Step
back in time and stay at the 400 year old Masons Arms Inn - a traditional
Dales inn surrounded by beautiful views, in the quiet village of Eastby,
near Skipton
The
historic Masons Arms Inn was originally built to accommodate the needs
of stone masons working in the nearby quarry. The landlady was a formidable
lady, refusing to serve any navvy on pay day who could not prove that
he had sent home money to his wife and children. Satisfied that all
important matters were taken care of, the stonemasons were allowed
to spend their money in the Masons Arms. If they were too over indulgent
they spent the night in the tiny jail house which still stands opposite
the pub today.
The
lounge and games rooms have real open fires. A strange inscription
(with an even stranger tale) is scratched into the glass window of
the games room. Snuggled in the corner of our cosy tap room in-between
the fireplace and the cribbage board we have Internet Access freely
available to all on 4 computers. You can enjoy all the Inn's charm
and history yet stay in touch and even shop online if the mood takes
you
Traditional food is served in our cosy non-smoking restaurant or in
the more informal surroundings of the lounge and bar. A special children's
menu is offered and packed lunches are available.
Eastby
is 2.5 miles from the market town of Skipton "Gateway to the
Dales" positioned at the south-western boundary of the Yorkshire
Dales National Park. Close to the main A65 route which skirts the
Yorkshire Dales and leads on to the Lake District, Eastby is a tranquil
base with spectacular views from which to tour some of the best loved
attractions in the Yorkshire Dales and northern England.
Nearby are the
famous dales villages of Malham (with its spectacular limestone cliffs
and gorges), Grassington, Burnsall and the spa town of Ilkley in Lower
Wharfedale. York, Harrogate, Leeds and Haworth (home of the Brontes)
are within an hour's drive away. A steam train can be taken from neighbouring
Embsay to the celebrated riverside beauty spot of Bolton Abbey.
Using
the pub as a base, local walks are plentiful and spectacular. Sailing,
fishing and golf and horse-riding are all available locally.
Skipton is a
bustling market town steeped in history with a busy street market
4 days a week in the High Street below Skipton Castle.
Boat
trips on the Leeds Liverpool Canal which runs through Skipton are
popular, with many other local attractions throughout the year. There
are a number of excellent pubs, restaurants and a night-club providing
a great day or evening out.
The
Masons Arms Inn has one twin and one double room.
Once you have
ducked through the low doorways you will find both rooms are comfortable
and cosy with crisp bed linen and en-suite bathrooms. The twin is
a sunny yellow room and the double is relaxed Scottish heather colours.
Both rooms have great views.
There is ample
parking in our car park and a safe store can be provided for bikes.
Bed
and breakfast at the Masons Arms Inn costs £27.50 per person
per night. It includes full English breakfast. Do contact us
for details of discounts on stays of over 2 nights, and out of
season rates.
A
guaranteed warm welcome awaits from the owners Phil and Carole
as well as the locals. Our main aim is informal comfort with great
